✨Scribble Me Silly Guest Artist Spotlight✨

Meet Steven Conway (they/them)💜

Steven Conway aka Tago Mago aka Pansy Sinatra together with Pearle Harbour thrilled the SMS kids with a creative, theatrical, musical, mystical workshop last winter.

When Steven shares music with you you know you are in good hands. They always have a fresh take on an old tune and challenge our creative instincts to create something truly unique. After a workshop with Steven you can be proud of what you have created!

Steven is an inter-disciplinary queer performer based in Toronto. With a classical education in piano and music theory, Steven is self-taught in a wide variety of instruments and styles. They write, arrange, and perform in multiple bands, create interactive musical improvisations under the name Twin Mask, and teach music to children of all ages.

They hold an MA from U of T’s Centre for Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies, where they focused on the ethics and aesthetics of participatory performance, studying with the trans-continental performance art company La Pocha Nostra.

Steven is the producer and host of BANDS & DRAG!, a monthly show series dedicated to bridging Toronto’s queer performance and music communities.

Meet Rashaana Cumberbatch💜

Rashaana joined Scribble Me Silly in 2017 when she wowed our SMS Teens with her dazzling steelpan skills.

Together with the teens on their ukuleles and Rashaana on pan our new found group rehearsed and performed for their friends, family and the SMS community at the opening night Gala for the Scribble Me Silly Art Show. The performance had everyone enthralled, and cheering for an encore, with its inspiring and moving melodies.

Not only is Rashaana an accomplished musician, dancer, and artist she is also an actor. You can catch Rashaana in the upcoming Christmas horror comedy on the SyFy network called Letters to Satan Claus or as Ruby in Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker starring Octavia Spencer, and in episodes of Odd Squad!

Rashaana has a spirit that is contagious, you can't be in her presence without feeling the joy she brings to every space. That is why we are delighted to have the multi talented Rashaana on our team of SMS Guest Artists.

Meet Pearle Harbour (she/her)💜

"Sweet-as-pie and sharp-as-nails, Pearle Harbour is an award-winning sensation and Canada's premiere drag tragicomedienne."

A workshop with Pearle Harbour is like having the sassy department store clerk, phone operator, boarding house marm from a classic 1940’s film pop out of the screen, sing you a song you didn’t know you needed to hear, and help you create your own devine character that represents your joy and makes you shine!

After a workshop with Pearle the SMS kids were all smiles as they posed for photos dressed as their own creative characters! Pearle Harbour and Pansy Sinatra create a fun and playful environment for the SMS kids to get creative.

Pearle is thoughtful and kind with a keen eye for fashion that helps each participant feel seen and comfortable to express their own inner Queens and Kings. We love the laughter and thoughtful questions that arise through a workshop with Pearle as we get a peek into the magic of clown and drag performance.

Meet Katrina Schaman (she/her) 💜

We met Katrina at the Riverdale Art walk in the summer of 2016!

Right away we knew Katrina's creative spirit was a perfect match for Scribble Me Silly. Since then she has volunteered her time leading workshops, at community events, and holding fundraisers.

A workshop with Katrina is an opportunity to dive into the magic of your imagination and make it come to life! She teaches us that almost any material can become art, from paint to office supplies. Katrina always plans a project where each young artist creates their own unique art piece that is also connected to every other piece in the room. Even though you might be working solo your art is always connected to a group piece of artistic synergy.

Katrina’s composure is her strength as she makes a connection with each young artist. It is a true joy to have Katrina as your guide while creating a masterpiece.

Katrina describes her unique mixed media style as 'Canadian art with a whimsical twist'.
